January Newsletter

As we start 2025, we reflect on the changes throughout the past year. Santa Fe Community College Foundation (SFCCF) is thankful for all of our board members, including our oncoming 2025 board president, Sheila Plunkett. We would like to take a moment to share her story of how she came to be our latest board president. We also want to thank all of our donors who have been part of our story throughout 2024.

Thank you to our donor family! Your generosity has transformed the lives of many students at Santa Fe Community College (SFCC). Thanks to your support, our students can pursue their dreams at SFCC without being burdened by financial worries. The success of our students is a powerful testament to how community support can help them reach their highest potential.

Each contribution to the Foundation directly addresses the needs of our students, whether it’s tuition assistance through scholarships, the replenishment of the emergency fund, or support for the campus cupboard. We are deeply grateful for your kindness and generosity of supporting our students through their educational journey. The incredible work of the Foundation would not be possible without your unwavering support.

Sheila is from St. Paul Minnesota, and has lived in New Mexico for years. First introduced to SFCCF through her network, she knew she had to be involved, and has now been on the board for the past 5 years. Her time with SFCCF has not only taught her about being an effective board member, but also deepened her experience of helping others in need. Before joining the SFCCF board, Sheila was “astounded to know that SFCCF existed and has helped so many.”

Knowing that one of the hardest obstacles that occurs in a student’s higher educational experience is financial stress, it has been her mission to find ways to support. “Something as simple as a car breaking down can make a student’s situation irreparable and they’ll drop out of school,” Sheila pointed out. “I work with SFCCF to make sure that things like that don’t happen.”

Planning to lead the board with inclusivity, connection, and collaboration in the coming year, Sheila’s top priority is to ensure that the board is able to help as many students as possible. “I think I am most excited to make impactful connections with students, board members, and SFCCF faculty this next year through events and community outreach,” Sheila concluded.

Thank you Sheila, for all of your hard work and passion for helping SFCC students.

We look forward to an incredible year ahead! We are excited to continue highlighting our amazing students and celebrating their success. Our students’ achievements wouldn’t be possible without the support of our staff, faculty, and donor family, and we are eager to share those inspiring stories as well. Together, we will build on the positive impact of last year and create even greater opportunities for our SFCC students.
